A former EastEnders actress has admitted to common assault and racially aggravated harassment.

After an incident in Essex, a former EastEnders actress admitted to racially aggravated harassment and common assault.

Katie Jarvis, 30, who played Hayley Slater in the soap from 2018 to 2019, was arrested on July 31, 2020, in Southend-on-Sea.

Jarvis, of Rainham, east London, initially denied the two charges but later changed her pleas at Basildon Crown Court.

On Wednesday, she will be sentenced in front of Judge Samantha Leigh.

Katie Jarvis, an ex-Eastenders actress, has pleaded guilty to racially aggravated harassment and common assault.

The 30-year-old actress, who played Hayley Slater in the BBC One soap from 2018 to 2019, initially pleaded not guilty to the charges, but changed her plea on the day her trial was set to begin at Basildon Crown Court.

The court heard Jarvis used "threatening, abusive words or behavior" to a number of people in Southend-on-Sea on July 31, 2020, "with the intent to cause harassment, alarm, or distress."

She was also accused of assaulting a man who worked at a bar on the same day.

Prosecutor Cyrus Shroff stated that the victim "was in a position to allow a child to use the toilet in the bar," and Jarvis admits to "spitting at the ground but not in his direction."

During the incident, Jarvis had previously pleaded not guilty to two counts of assault by beating. These issues were not addressed during today's hearing, and Jarvis will be sentenced tomorrow for racially aggravated harassment and common assault.

Other roles for the actress include the lead role of Mia Williams in the 2009 drama Fish Tank.

Fish Tank won the Jury Prize at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, and Jarvis was named the British Independent Film Awards' Most Promising Newcomer for her performance.

Before the case was heard, the former soap star was seen on the phone outside Basildon Crown Court.

Jarvis, who was dressed in a black and white patterned shirt, hoop earrings, and a black scarf for her court appearance, held a black bag on her arms as she spoke into her phone.

As she was pictured outside court on Tuesday, she pulled the black scarf over her face at one point to conceal her face.

After leaving the BBC One soap in 2019, the actress was revealed to be working as a security guard at B&M in Romford.

Jarvis later told Grazia magazine that she was made to feel ashamed of having a normal job.

"It's the nature of being an actor; gigs come and go, and after my contract with EastEnders ended in February, I found a new job as soon as I could," she explained at the time.

"Doing work like this also helps to keep me grounded."
